SEER Group

Tuesday, December 18th, 2012

Someone recently told us we needed to be more clear about who we are and what we do at SEER Group. So we figured we would :)

We are a non-profit construction group. Our goal is really simple. To provide freedom for people in chairs through wheelchair accessibility ramp. Life comes at us fast, and our world can be forever changed in a second. This need, one most of us had never considered, is now a necessity. Insurance rarely covers the cost of a ramp, and as children grow larger, parents aren’t able to haul them in and out of their homes like they used to.

A friend opened our eyes to this new world, and we are forever grateful. We have now been able to partner up with area businesses, Seer Outfitters, and many of you to install over 100 wheelchair ramps free of charge. Our hope is that in the coming years that number will continue to grow. And that we will get to continue to do this with you, so please, share with us others who may be in need. We would love your support, you can find a link to both help us locate potential families who are in need of a ramp, or help fund our next one in the bar to the left.

Seer Outfitters new campaign: Uncommon Good

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012

Seer Outfitters, who has been a long-time supporter of Seer Group, launched a new idea. One of telling the stories of uncommon good around the country, and promoting the idea that we can all do things outside of the ordinary for our neighbors. Here is a little something they wrote about us here in Utah.

UnCommon Good

A few years back, we found someone we believed in. We set up the means for a little shop and asked him to meet the needs of the neediest folk around him.  The ideas went wild. “We should build someone a house!”  It was exciting.  And would be a great story to tell.  Glory through philanthropy! And so we tried. Valiantly. And it failed. Miserably. The gift of humility was bestowed upon us.  And it was the best thing to ever happen for us.  You see, that story was about us.

What we found, through a wild chain of events, was hundreds of families were desperate for a wheel chair accessible ramp, but without an extra ten thousand dollars to buy one. Ramps. Not so glamorous… But it was the need. And so we started.

The stories were overwhelming, and so many were so similar. Life was going along at a nice clip, but in a blink of an eye it was forever changed.  Sickness, degenerative disease, permanent injury from an accident, or something as beautiful as a new child born with a disability and there was a family trying to figure out how to cope and move on in their new circumstances.  Often our paths don’t cross another’s who has survived such a tragedy, but here, the coincidences haven’t stopped lining up.  So under the name Seer Group, we have built and installed over a hundred ramps at no cost to the family in need.

The need has been the call for us here in Salt Lake City.  We look forward to seeing how Seer Group may evolve but one thing is for sure, we are rooted here, living life together, building bridges and letting rain fall.

RAINing.. SLC

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

RAIN.. sometimes it’s gentle, sometimes it’s not. But when it stops, new life will grow. Things that were hidden in dirt are uncovered. Plants that appeared to be dead sprout again and turn to shades of green. Flowers bloom. And there is beauty.

That’s the idea behind the RAIN project. A coat of paint. Conversations. And new friends. Eyes are opened to what’s happening in the place we call home. Neighbors meet for the first time. Blocks that used to look beaten up change. And people feel blessed by getting to be a blessing.

All we really want is to feel loved, and the best way we know how to do that is to show love. Someone does care about me. Though it seems like our world is becoming more and more intertwined, and six degrees of separation is moving towards five, connecting to someone behind a computer screen or a phone isn’t the same as putting an arm around someone’s shoulders.

Isn’t it interesting that a giant Redwood starts from a seed? That something so small, so simple, can become so big? Our hope is that lots of seeds were spread Saturday, and that life comes from the RAIN. Some of those conversations bloom into friendships. And those eyes that are now seeing remain open. And that some of those seeds become Redwoods.

What an incredible day. What incredible people. And what incredible hearts. Wow.
