YEAR END UPDATE ON SEERGROUP

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

NEW CABINETS AT BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB2009 is just about gone. We at SeerGroup are excited about the opportunities in the New Year. As we wrap up our first year of operations in the Salt Lake  City  Community,  we have completed many different types of  construction projects. In the summer of 2009 we were able to re- roof several homes in serious need of replacement; built storage shelving, and a new employment office for the Youth Homeless Center of Salt Lake City.  This fall, SeerGroup installed new locker cabinets for the kids play area and storage shelving for the Boys & Girls Club of Salt Lake City.  Bathrooms, handicap ramps, handicap railings and many, many more projects have been completed and are currently under construction to end 2009.

We have also started to focus on individual families that find themselves in difficult times; we have started The Seer Snow Removal Program for Senior Citizens. The creation of our Seer Acts Program was designed to fix simple household repairs that would prevent costly damage to family homes.

In late November, SeerGroup leased a 2000 sq. ft warehouse and office space.  This space is allowing us to have more of an impact to the community including the storage of donated goods and materials to use for the individuals we seek to help.

We are looking forward to 2010 and the ability to continue to bless the people of this Valley. With Seer Acts and our building programs in place we are continually looking for new opportunities this spring and summer.

CHRISTMAS IN PHILLY

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

THE MISSION It is better to give”……THAN TO RECEIVE.”
That was our message this Christmas to the young people at the Mission in Philadelphia.

There are no outdoor decorative Christmas lights in this housing development in North Philly.
Most kids don’t believe in Santa and never did.
The symbol of Christ’s birth has long since been replaced by a scramble for Christmas toys.

This year we tried to simplify the season and turn the tables.
2,000 years ago Jesus was born.  This week we celebrate.  Instead of the focus on what we are getting, we asked the kids give.
We still gave our gifts at our Christmas party, but we added a 2nd night of gift giving.
But this time, the youth had to go shopping in our kids room for presents for their mothers.
And instead of sending them home with another football or doll, they left with a gift to give.

Our high school students also practiced giving.
The Kyle Korver Foundation gave each student $20….but they had to donate it to a cause that moved them.
The Special Olympics, a homeless shelter, a child in Africa, and on and on.
The youth wrote explanatory letters and were thrilled to be a blessing.
One girl wrote to bluntly to an African child, “you need this more than I do”.

The letters raw and pure and the message was clear.
It truly is better to give than to receive.

SEER CLOTHING UP AND RUNNING

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

Seer - RespectSeer Clothing, which is linked to the site, is up and running. It has been a long process, and we are excited to present it to the public for the first time.

A seer is a visionary or a prophet.  Someone who gives pictures or images for social change. In this line we are working with seven themes.

Strength, Courage, Honor, Respect, Knowledge, Peace, Faith/hope/love

So each gender has seven themed shirts and one seer branding shirt. The shirts don’t say strength or courage. They have an image that portrays it. Then inside the shirt it says the theme and what we define it to be. Lots more to come, not only on the shirts but also the vision behind it.
