2010 held the beginning, continuation and end of some ideas, lots of hard work, a hundred steady steps down a decidedly long road, achievements, inspiration and a healthy dose of Change. We look back with full hearts, knowing that all that we did, helped facilitate and were a part of, happened because of the extraordinary people in our life. You are a gigantic part of what we do. Not just because you take the time to read up on us, or buy a tshirt but because your heart resonates the same truth, the same love, as ours. Thank you for being here, thank you for caring. Thank your for lending your hands, time, help, money and ideas.
When 2010 began, we did not know that we’d end the year in Chicago.
We could not have predicted the Changes coming. Yet we have begun 2011 with awesome people we didn’t even know 6 months ago. That’s pretty amazing, considering we’ve already done two events that fell together simply, efficiently and were staffed by folk we feel like we’ve known for years. That being said, leaving Utah was bittersweet, for it was hard to want or imagine anyone ever taking the place of some of our friends there.
Life is Change. Good living, requires more than the ability to survive change. Good Living is cultivated by the ability to thrive in the midst of uncertainty. Growth is not easy. Yet, it is necessary, if we are to become the best we can be; doing all that we are capable of.
As you may have seen or imagined, we are up for some huge possibilities here in Chicago, in 2011. Being aware of what it takes for the Foundation to grow and the glorious uncertainties of life has lead us to start this year off with our hands to the plow… or keyboard? Here’s the scoop…
The KKF has expanded its ministry through the Helping Hands Mission in Philadelphia. Five years ago, we started with a group of elementary and middle school aged kids. Now, one is in college! and those ‘kids’ are now in high school, helping us run the Mission, influencing a new group of ‘kids in the neighborhood’.
The Seer Group, our Utah division of the KKF, has found its niche…Handicap Ramps. Voiced as a local concern and massive need by some amazing people, it was brought to our attention that those who require ramps, often cannot purchase one as it is not covered by their insurance. People have almost been trapped in their homes. Through your help and support, 48 homes now are handicap accessible!
Seer Outfitters had a second line of shirts come out this winter and are currently working hard on run number 3. We have a good-looking new website, new placement in stores, and are excited about pending opportunities. We are on schedule to release new product, every season this year. Be sure to continue to check back with us often. In a spin off of our hero, Robin Hood’s mantra… “(we are) clothing the rich, to feed the poor”.
This coming year, we are looking into specific Cause Shirts, which will be fantastically designed t-shirts that will be sold by and for a mission/group- “cause” that needs a little help. Look for the first Cause shirt for the Abide Network of Omaha in March.
As we continue to expand the work currently being done and look for self sustaining ways to help those in need, we continue to root ourselves here in Chicago. Your stories inspire and motivate us to find ways to serve and meet the needs of our neighbors. We’ve seen so much good happening in our neighborhoods, because of people, like you, who want to DO Something to help. More than just care. There are so many ways to live a life, so much you can do for yourself, in lieu of someone else. We hope we are part of the resistance! We want to do something love in this world. That begins and ends with looking outside of our ‘selves’ and looking in the eyes of someone else. Happy New Year Friends.
