SUMMERTIME SOCCER IN THE CITY04.14.12

Everybody wants to be a part of something. As general as that statement is, it holds deep and specific truths about the hearts and futures of our children.

What we have seen in the projects of Philadelphia is that our kids end up playing a real life game of follow-the-leader.
They are shaped by those who go before them and live around them.
Unfortunately, in urban Philadelphia, this is often a way that is apart from things good.
Drugs, crime, and violence are the norm and not the exception.
And in a  ’we do what they did’ culture, this becomes a dangerous road traveled for our young people.
Children join gangs and fall into bad crowds simply out of the need to belong….the be a part of something.
In 2012, The Kyle Korver Foundation is teaming with United States Soccer Federation to bring new “something” to the North Philly projects. For our children, soccer is truly more than a game.  It gives them a team.  A belonging.   It is a good path to travel.
We are in a tug of war for the future of our children.  The opposition is strong……but we like our teams chances.
